The mingle will take place from 18:15 onwards.
19:00 Lecture with Gunnar Rundgren
Consumer choice is a myth when it comes to food. What we eat is determined by our ancestors’ choices, by corporations and governments and by three mega trends: the use of fossil fuels in all parts of the food chain; the commercialization of most part of our lives; and by growth of populations and where they live.
Based on his book ‘Global Eating Disorder’, Gunnar Rundgren explains how and why almost one billion go hungry, while even more people eat too much. Why food has become cheap at the expense of the environment and social development.
Gunnar Rundgren has worked with most parts of the organic farmer sector – from farming to policy – since 1977, starting on the pioneer organic farm, Torfolk. Founder and Senior Consultant of Grolink AB (www.grolink.se) – mainly targeting developing countries, working for several United Nations agencies and development cooperation organizations including Sida and the World Bank.
He was the initiator of several organisations for organic agriculture in Sweden, including KRAV where he was the director for the first eight years. He became a World Board member of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements 1998 and was the president 2000-2005. He was a founding board member of the ISEAL-alliance.
Since 2009, he has devoted increasing time to writing and speaking about wider developments in food, agriculture, environment and society. He has published several books (translated to five languages) about the major social and environmental challenges of our world, food and farming. The latest book is Global Eating Disorder (Den stora ätstörningen).
Rundgren was awarded an honorary doctorate in science at the Uganda Martyrs University 2009, and was 2010 appointed member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry.
He blogs on Garden Earth.
