UPF and RWI Lecture / Border Deaths and Human Rights / Thomas Spijkerboer
This event is a part of a series of human rights related lectures which UPF is co-organising with its collaboration partner the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law
Thousands of people are dying at Europe’s border every year.
For over a decade, Thomas Spijkerboer has done research on this, and presently he is finalising a five year, multi-sited research project on it. Where this is treated as a tragedy in public opinion, media and policy-making, Thomas will analyse border deaths as large scale, protracted and a policy-related violation of the right to life. He will also outline the consequences of that analysis for European law and policy.
Thomas Spijkerboer (professor of Migration Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) is currently Raoul Wallenberg visiting professor of Human Rights and Humantarian Law at Lund University.
