The Student Evening Committee

The Student Evening Committee

Independent forum for conversation and debate.
The Student Evening tradition began in 1905 and since then the Student Evening Committee arranges evenings at the Academic Association in Lund. For over a hundred years, the Student Evening Committee has invited researchers, musicians, politicians, writers, royalty, journalists, debaters, directors, business leaders and artists. A Student Evening begins in classic fashion with the guest giving a speech, after which the audience is given the opportunity to ask questions. However, the student evenings can be varied in their nature and picture shows, concerts, stand-up, debates and fashion shows also occur.
Many controversial speakers have visited Studentaftnarna over the years, and Studentafton has therefore come to be known as "Sweden's freest speaker's chair". The Student Evening Committee's task is to protect free speech and to be a forum for conversation and debate. The Student Evening Committee is a politically and religiously unaffiliated organization, which means that the committee does not necessarily sympathize with the views or actions of the invited speakers. The Academic Association's Student Evening Committee is independent from Lund University.
The student evenings traditionally take place in the Academic Association's premises at Sandgatan 2 and are discounted for members of Studentlund.
