Student Affairs Committee

Student Affairs Committee

Independent forum for discussion and debate.
The Student Evening tradition began in 1905 and since then the Student Evening Committee organises evenings at the Academic Association in Lund. For over a hundred years, the Student Evening Committee has invited scholars, musicians, politicians, writers, royalty, journalists, debaters, directors, business leaders and artists. A Student Evening begins in the classic manner with a speech by the guest, after which the audience is given the opportunity to ask questions. However, Student Nights can be varied in nature, with slide shows, concerts, stand-up, debates and fashion shows also taking place.
Many controversial speakers have attended Student Evenings over the years and Student Evenings have therefore come to be known as "Sweden's freest lectern". The mission of the Student Afton Committee is to protect free speech and to be a forum for discussion and debate. The Student Afton Committee is a politically and religiously independent organisation, which means that the committee does not necessarily sympathise with the opinions or actions of the invited speakers. The Academic Association's Student Evening Committee is independent of Lund University.
The student evenings traditionally take place in the Academic Association's premises at Sandgatan 2 and are discounted for members of Studentlund.
