Student evening

Student evening

Independent forum for conversation and debate.

The Student Evening tradition began in 1905 and since then the Student Evening Committee has been arranging evenings at the Academic Association in Lund. For over a hundred years, the Student Evening Committee has invited researchers, musicians, politicians, writers, royalty, journalists, debaters, directors, business leaders and artists. A Student Evening begins in the classic manner with the guest giving a speech, after which the audience is given the opportunity to ask questions. However, the Student Evenings can vary in character and there are also film screenings, concerts, stand-up, debates and fashion shows.

Many controversial speakers have visited Studentaftnarna over the years, and Studentaftnarna has therefore come to be called “Sweden’s freest rostrum”. The Studentaftnarna committee’s task is to protect free speech and to be a forum for conversation and debate. The Studentaftnarna committee is a politically and religiously independent organization, which means that the committee does not necessarily sympathize with the opinions or actions of the invited speakers. The Academic Society’s Studentaftnarna committee is independent of Lund University. The Studentaftnarna traditionally takes place in the Academic Society’s premises at Sandgatan 2 and offers discounted admission for members of Studentlund.
