Naval Academy Sjölund

Naval Academy Sjölund

SjöLund - Sweden's oldest naval academic association - was founded in 1964 by a merry band of members of the Royal Navy Reserve, who were also students at Lund University.
Among them is FK em I, i.e. the founder and first president of the association, Hans Josefsson, but also FK em II, Olof Stenhammar. Both were initially involved in building up the association and are still in good contact today.
SjöLund's purpose is to bring together members around academic and naval traditions, to promote the interests of the Navy, to keep in touch with active comrades in the Navy and to promote a strong bond between the members and the Armed Forces as a respite from work and study.
Thanks to the members' spread in the business community in Sweden and abroad, there is also an exchange of information with companies and other parts of society outside student life and the Navy. Of SjöLund's 245 members, about twenty are active students and the rest are spread across a global network!
We are housed in the AF-borgeni Lundagård where all students flock. The mess hall (our association room) is located in one of the Academic Association's towers from which the Sound and Denmark can be seen with some effort!
Every year the society holds a ball in Lund, always with a stately dinner at the Grand Hotel. For this ball nearly a thousand invitations are sent out, first of all to King Carl XVI Gustaf, own members as well as members of subsidiary societies and to the naval units. The flag (i.e. the board) and the SjöLundscorpsens agenda are otherwise filled with events in Lund and around Sweden, which can be seen during the semester's activities!
