The Boelspex

Hey!
Boelspexarna is one of two spex committees within the Academic Association. The committee was founded in 1994 when a group of girls asked themselves: “Where do all the funny girls go?” They wanted to create a spex stage for women as well — and so, Boelspexarna was born. The name is borrowed from Lund University’s first female Vice-Chancellor, Boel Flodgren. The premiere took place in October and was an instant success. Today, Boelspexarna is a beloved and integral part of Lund’s vibrant spex community.

Around 100 students volunteer within Boelspexarna, contributing to everything from set painting, makeup, costume sewing and cooking to working the bar. The stage is reserved for women, but all other areas are open for anyone — regardless of gender — to participate in and get involved with. The work culminates in a festive performance weekend, traditionally held on the third weekend of October and now also on the last weekend of February.

As a student in Lund, you have the opportunity not only to join the spex behind the scenes but also to be part of the enthusiastic spex audience.
