MAIN NUMBER:

When Josef Slunge made his album debut in 2023 with "ikväll, inatt, but never tomorrow", he immediately positioned himself as one of the most interesting names on the Swedish scene, which playfully moves seamlessly between genres and expressions. The reactions were not long in coming: P3, Aftonbladet, Nöjesguiden, Göteborgs-Posten and Gaffa were some who stood at the front of the tribute chorus. Slunge topped off the year with his first headlining tour, an acclaimed guest appearance at Way Out West with Cleo and winning this year's Creative Juice scholarship.

Slunge released his first songs under his own name back in 2019, but on the debut album he lets his previous hip-hop influences become one of many ingredients in a mix of musical approaches. In that way, he is now, quite unconsciously, more in the contemporary than ever before. "There is a fragility in the songs that can only come from someone who dares to be vulnerable in front of himself and his listeners," as one lyrical reviewer wrote.

For Slunge, forward movement is elemental, so it's no surprise that his mixtape "I Love You," released this spring, takes completely different directions than the album. Here he returns, in constant collaboration with producer Matteus Jording, in a tribute to the hip-hop in which he began his musical career. The songs are built entirely from sampling, with every sounding note borrowed from someone else – whether it's a small sound effect, a snare, or something more substantial. When the project was finished, over 500 samples had been used.

The reactions didn't wait: P3, Aftonbladet, Nöjesguiden, Göteborgs-Posten and Gaffa were some of the frontrunners to sing their praises. Slunge topped the year off with his first headlining tour, an acclaimed guest appearance at Way Out West with Cleo and receiving the Creative Juice scholarship.

Slunge released his first songs under his own name as early as 2019, but on his debut album he lets his early hip-hop influences become one of many ingredients in a mix of musical angles of approach. In that way he's now, fully instinctively, more contemporary than ever before. As a lyrical reviewer wrote: "There's a fragility in the songs that can only come from someone who dares to be vulnerable in front of themselves and their listeners".

The movement forward is elementary to Slunge, so it comes as no surprise that his spring mixtape “I Love You” moves in completely different directions than the album. Here he returns, in constant collaboration with producer Matteus Jording, in an homage to the hip-hop he started his musical path in.
