The student residence in Skanör
Lund's students have their very own summer and winter palace in picturesque Skanör. This is where AF committees, student nations and other associations go to socialise, plan or just relax from their studies!
On the outskirts of Skanör, where the old town meets the river, Edla and John af Klercker once lived. Edla was a professor in Copenhagen and John a "private lecturer" in botany. From their big house they could let their eyes wander over the small town with the church and the town hall, over the rich flume and meet the sea in the south. In 1938 Edla donated the farm to the Academic Association and the students of Lund, for study and social gathering, as the deed of gift said.
The student residence in Skanör consists of a large house built in 1885 with a lush garden. It has a unique atmosphere that is hard to find anywhere else and that Lund's students have enjoyed for generations. The Student House is a foundation belonging to the Academic Association and is managed by a board of trustees and the student elected as its director. Therefore, with the exception of the caretaker Mats, the Studentgården is almost exclusively managed and visited by students, which gives the courtyard its unique, student-like atmosphere.
The Student House in Skanör has 36 beds in thirteen cosy rooms. The rooms consist of three 4-bed rooms, four 3-bed rooms and six 2-bed rooms. The beds are of a simpler type and consist of both single beds and bunk beds. Duvets and pillows are provided in the rooms, but guests must bring their own bedding such as sheets or sleeping bags.
Showers, toilets and saunas
Saunas are available in the Student House. There are also four showers and four toilets. In addition to these toilets, there are also two smaller ones, one upstairs and one on the ground floor. There is also a washing machine and drying cabinet in the courtyard. If you wish to use the sauna and showers in the Student Courtyard, you must bring your own towel and shower materials.
Thenewly renovated kitchen has all the equipment you could possibly need during your stay. The kitchen is equipped with two large stoves with ovens, a large fridge, a restaurant dishwasher, a microwave, a coffee machine and a kettle. In the hall at the entrance to the garden there is also a fridge for drinks and a freezer. Crockery, glasses and cutlery are available for about 35-40 people.
There are several common rooms of different size and character in the Student House. On the ground floor there is the large Dining Hall which can seat about 35 people and the Red Cabinet for smaller, cosier conversations. Upstairs there is the Salon and the Library where you can be between 10-30 people for conversation and socializing. All rooms are furnished with nice and comfortable furniture and there is a piano in both the Dining Room and the Salon. There are also many board games to enjoy in the hallway of the Salon. If you wish to hold a conference, there are facilities for this at the Student House. The equipment includes an OH machine, projector, tablecloth and large bed blocks. If you are interested in borrowing the equipment, please contact us in advance.
Thegarden and outdoor environments
The Student House has a large garden with many interesting and rare plants. In the garden there is also a paved area near the house where you can sit large groups in our nice outdoor furniture. Barbecues are also available and these should be cleaned after use.
The student residence is beautifully situated in the countryside, close to the Flommen and the old castle ruins. The sea and the beach are about 10 minutes' walk away.
The student center also has a large tent that you can rent if you want to have a party for many in the garden.
Wireless internet is available on the farm and is free to use. (Unfortunately, the signal is not always strong enough to be tolerated.) Cleaning equipment and instructions are available and each party must clean the yard after their stay.
When renting the Student House, it is important to remember that the house is located in an urban area, which means that you must respect the neighbours and not play too loud music at night, litter, etc.
TheStudent Houseis located at Kyrkogatan 3, a hundred metres from Skanörs Church. If you do not have access to a car, there are good public transport connections between Lund and Skanör.
